Eligible families interested in free and reduced-price meal programs at school are now able to apply for participation at any time during the year.

The programs, which include the National School Lunch Program and the School Breakfast Program, are administered through Washington’s Office of Superintendent of Public Information (OSPI) in partnership with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).

The application process for participation in the programs is completely confidential. Households with incomes below certain levels (see eligibility tables in this article) are encouraged to apply.

OSPI requires that application reviews and determinations are made within 10 operating days of receipt. Households can appeal a decision of denial by contacting the District Office.
