The Kalama High School Drama program invites you to attend a production of "My Fatal Valentine," a murder mystery by Elaine Moushey.
The play takes place at a convention of romance writers, where the contenders for the LoveKnot Book of the Year Award are anxious to find out who wins the prize. When the winner is announced and then abruptly murdered, it will be up to the amateur detectives in the audience to vote for who they think the culprit is.
Michael Ready, who heads up the school's Drama program, said audience interaction in the play makes for a unique experience for everyone involved.
"The challenge for any multi-ending show is getting all of those additional lines and possibilities down," he said. "I think what has been the most difficult is the improv; trying to consistently keep character while mingling with audience members is a different sort of world to what our actors mostly work with.
"The kids are very excited!" he added. "They picked this show out of probably 30 we looked at. It's funny, it's corny and campy, and really just pulls at the very basis of murder mystery theatre. They have worked really hard and are excited to present it to the community!"
In addition to high school students, several Kalama Middle School students are also performing, according to Ready.
Performances of "My Fatal Valentine" will be held at the Kalama High School Auditorium on Friday, December 1st at 7 p.m., and on Saturday, December 2nd at 2 p.m.
General Admission tickets are $10, or $7 for students with ASB. Children 5 and under are free, and refreshments are provided for no additional charge. Doors open 30 minutes prior to the start time.
