New Board Candidate Commitment Information

Interested in joining the Kalama School Board? Please use the resources and information below as a guide to understanding the commitment that's required as a member of the board.

Training requirements (with the timeframes for completion): 

  • Open Government Trainings 

    • Open Public Meetings Act (due within 90 days of taking office) 

    • Public Records Act (due within 90 days of taking office) 

  • Equity training  

    • Two, 2.5-hour trainings (must be completed within 2 years of taking office)

    • One 2.5-hour training (required each subsequent term of office)

Time commitment & attendance responsibilities if elected: 

  • Board meetings  

    • 1 meeting on the 2nd Monday of each month starting at 12 pm 

    • 1 meeting on the 4th Monday of each month starting at 7 pm 

    • Additional executive sessions as needed (typically following board meetings)

    • Special/emergency meetings as needed 

  • Board retreats 

    • 2 yearly (typically October and May, each lasting approximately 6 hours, 9 am – 3 pm) 

  • Committee assignments, as needed 

    • Dependent on the committee's schedule  

  • WSSDA Conference  

    • Every November for 2-3 days (either in Spokane or Bellevue)  

Other responsibilities if elected:

  • Filing of Public Disclosure Information (PDI) yearly by April 15  

  • Evaluations 

    • Superintendent  

    • School Board 

  • Support Opportunities 

    • School Events 

    • Special Activities that support KSD (i.e., Chamber events) 

  • Graduation 

    • Participation in the KSD graduation ceremony annually in June
