Kindergarten Registration

Registration now open for 2022-2023!

Kalama School District is now registering Kindergarten students for the 2022-2023 school year!

The district offers a full-day kindergarten program that provides our youngest learners with the opportunity to develop essential social, emotional and problem-solving skills, preparing them for success in later grades and life.

Registration packets are available for download HERE. Alternatively, packets can be picked up at the elementary office between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on school days. If you need to make other arrangements, please call 360-673-5207 or email Carey Sweyer at Once your packet is complete, please drop it off at the Kalama Elementary School main office (549 China Garden Road) during school hours.

To register your child, you will be asked to provide the following documentation:

  • Birth Certificate

  • Proof of residency in Kalama School District

  • Up-to-date immunization records

How old does my child need to be in order to be eligible for Kindergarten?

To be eligible for Kindergarten, a child must turn 5 years old on or before August 31.

When can I register my child for Kindergarten?

In any given year, Kindergarten registration typically opens in late March. Registration packets are available for download, here. They can also be picked up at the KES office during school hours.

Where do I submit my completed registration and other required forms?

Completed forms can be dropped off at the Kalama Elementary School main office (549 China Garden Road) during school hours.

What is "Kindergarten Round-Up?"

Much like an open house event, "Kindergarten Round-Up" offers families the opportunity to visit classrooms, meet our Kindergarten teachers, and learn about what to expect in Kindergarten! Our bus transportation provider, KWRL, often has a school bus on site to tour.

What is the deadline to register my child for Kindergarten?

Kindergarten registration before June 1 is encouraged to save your child a spot and to help the district plan for appropriate staffing levels. That said, there is no official deadline to register your child for Kindergarten.

Is there a cost to families for the Kindergarten program?


Can my child ride the bus to school?
